For chemical and physical analytical methods such as AAS, NIR, ICP or XRF it is essential that the specimen is perfectly homogenized to an adequate degree of analytical fineness. A reliable and accurate analysis can only be guaranteed by reproducible sample preparation. For these tasks RETSCH offers a comprehensive range of the most modern mills and crushers for coarse, fine and ultrafine size reduction of almost any material. The choice of grinding tools and accessories ensures that our instruments provide for contamination-free and reliable sample preparation prior to laboratory analysis.
Ball millsBall mills are among the most variable and effective tools when it comes to size reduction of hard, brittle or fibrous materials. The variety of grinding modes, usable volumes and available grinding tool materials make ball mills the perfect match for a vast range of applications.
1 - High energy ball mill: The Emax is an entirely new type of ball mill for high energy milling. The unique combination of high friction and impact results in extremely fine particles within the shortest amount of time.
2 - Mixer mill: The mixer mills are compact versatile benchtop units, which has been developed specially for dry/wet/Cryogenic grinding of small amounts of sample. Different models available.
3 - Cryo mill: The CryoMill is tailored for cryogenic grinding. The grinding jar is continually cooled with liquid nitrogen from the integrated cooling system before and during the grinding process. Thus the sample is embrittled and volatile components are preserved. The liquid nitrogen circulates through the system and is continually replenished from an Autofill system in the exact amount which is required to keep the temperature at -196 °C. Powerful impact ball milling results in a perfect grinding efficiency. The Autofill system avoids direct contact with LN2 and makes cryogenic grinding very safe. Its versatility (cryogenic, wet and dry grinding at room temperature) makes the CryoMill the ideal grinder for quantities up to 20 ml.
4 - Planetary ball mill: Planetary Ball Mills are used wherever the highest degree of fineness is required. Apart from the classical mixing and size reduction processes, the mills also meet all the technical requirements for colloidal grinding and have the energy input necessary for mechanical alloying processes. The extremely high centrifugal forces of a planetary ball mill result in very high pulverization energy and therefore short grinding times. Different models available.
5 - XRD mill: The XRD-Mill McCrone was specially developed for the preparation of samples for subsequent X-ray diffraction (XRD). The mill is used for applications in geology, chemistry, mineralogy and materials science, quality control as well as R&D.
6 - Drum mill / Rod mill: The TM 300 Drum Mill is used for the preparation of granules and powders. The grinding process is performed either in dry or wet conditions. The drum mill can be operated either as a Ball or as a Rod Mill by using the corresponding module. A sufficient number of balls or rods is required for an effective grinding process. Typically, a final fineness below 20 microns is obtained.
Jaw Crushers
Retsch Jaw Crushers are used for the rapid, powerful crushing and pre-crushing of mediumhard, hard, brittle and tough materials. The variety of materials offered, their efficiency and safety make them ideal for sample preparation in laboratories and industrial plants. There are different models available based on Material feed size & Final fineness required.
Rotor Mills
The rotor mill series includes Ultra Centrifugal Mills, Rotor Beater Mills and Cross Beater Mills. Depending on the particular instrument they are suitable for the preliminary and fine size reduction of soft, fibrous and also hard materials.
Cutting Mills
RETSCH cutting mills provide highly efficient primary size reduction of heterogeneous material mixes but are also suitable for grinding soft, medium-hard, elastic or fibrous samples. Cuttings mills offer a high level of operational safety and convenience. The wide selection of accessories allows for easy adaptation to different application requirements.
Knife Mills
RETSCH knife mills provide completely homogeneous and reproducible size reduction results in seconds so that representative samples can be taken from any location in the grinding container.
Mortar Grinders
The Mortar Grinder RM 200 can mix and homogenize powders, suspension and pastes, even for samples with high viscosity. The RM 200 is suitable for the proper and reproducible sample preparation to analytical fineness.
Disc Mills
RETSCH Vibratory Disc Mills are particularly suitable for rapid, loss-free grinding of hard, brittle and fibrous materials to analytical fineness. The mills are primarily used for sample preparation for spectral analysis.
Due to their robust construction disc mills are used under rough conditions in laboratories and pilot plants, as well as online for the quality control of raw materials.
